Does anyone know a vendor in the US that sells the Schlumpf
grease for the Schlumpf mountain drive? My Schlumpf (love
that name) makes loud noises when in the direct drive mode.

Thanks

Al

Sounds as though something is loose in there - I'd be getting it serviced,
not just putting grease in it. If it's an early model there were problems
with a few of them (internal gears failing) but Schlumpf replaced mine
as soon as I contacted them without any questions. And I got a free Swiss
army knife ;-)

I was just using normal oil from memory, the hole for that just said "oil"
not grease. It was pretty heavy oil though, not spray lube.

Seems that this "few" were quite a few ...

From the Schlumf web page - www.schlumpf.ch/md_engl.htm

At the assembly, we lube the mountain-drive with a basic quantity of
MoS2-grease, which is good for at least 2'000 - 3'000 miles.

Indeed, if you are interested in the highest possible efficiency, you
can lube the mountain-drive yourself from time to time.

Lubes:

- simple and very effectiv: some drops of bicycle oil

- longtime effect: 1ml of the original MoS2-grease - ampoule (->
accessories)

- Superior Friction Reduction spray, based on a teflon lubrication (->
accessories)

Please take into account:
The mountain-drive - O-ring at the circumference has very low pressure
to avoid friction losses. Therefore, it is not designed to keep an oil
bath within the gear housing.
Excessiv lubrication may result in a loss of oil. This is no functional
problem, but please take care, if you transport your bike within your car

Cheers
Rob

As far as I know, it doesn't take grease. There is a fill hole on the
side plugged by a flathead screw that takes a few drops of oil every
couple of thousand KM.

I always thought it was not grease but oil that is used in a Schlumpf -
I have 4 (3 Mountain Drives and 1 Speed Drive) and they all come with a
screw which I remove and put in a few drops of good bicycle oil every
few hundred miles - I normally seem to put too much in as there are
almost always a few drips afterwards, but a single bottle of oil lasts
for many years even so.
